FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does Sodium Alginate work?
Sodium alginate is a natural gelling substance that forms a bioadhesive gel when it comes into contact with calcium ions, such as those found in gastric juice. This gel adheres to the gastric wall.

Can the product be given directly to animals or does it need to be hidden in food?
The product contains bacon flavoring, making it highly palatable. However, if any animal refuses it, it can be mixed with a small amount of food, such as a bit of ham.

Can it be given with food?
Although it is recommended to give it after meals, it can also be administered with food. The daily dose can be split into two servings if preferred.

Why is it better to give after meals?
Since Vetilea Gastro forms a gel in the stomach and acts as an antacid, it is more effective when given after meals. Administering it before meals might reduce its efficacy as the gel could break down. However, giving it with food is acceptable.

Can it be given with other medications?
Calcium carbonate, as an antacid, may interact with medications that require an acidic environment for proper absorption. Therefore, it is recommended to leave a 2-hour gap between administering Vetilea Gastro and other medications, especially H2 antihistamines, antifungals, digoxin, and certain antibiotics (tetracyclines and quinolones).

Can it be given with Omeprazole?
Yes, it can be used alongside omeprazole. However, it is recommended to space the doses by two hours—for example, give omeprazole before meals and Vetilea Gastro after.

How long can Vetilea Gastro ST be given for?
In cases of acute or chronic gastritis or esophagitis, the product can be used during these episodes.
As gastroprotection, such as during NSAID treatment or for esophageal protection, it can be used continuously or for the duration of the treatment.

Can it be used in animals with chronic kidney disease?
It may be used in animals with chronic kidney disease, particularly in cases of uremic gastritis, but it is recommended to monitor calcium levels.

Can it be used in pregnant females?
Its use has not been tested in pregnant females, so administration is not recommended.
