FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does Sodium Alginate work?
Sodium alginate is a natural gelling substance that forms a bioadhesive gel when it comes into contact with calcium ions, such as those found in gastric juice. This gel adheres to the gastric and/or esophageal wall.
Can the product be given directly to animals or does it need to be masked?
The product contains bacon and chicken flavoring, making it highly palatable. However, if the animal doesn't take it directly, it can be mixed with a little food, such as ham.
Can it be given with food?
Although it is recommended to administer it after meals, it can be given with food. If preferred, the daily dose can be divided into two administrations.
Why is it preferable to administer it after meals?
Since Vetilea Gastro forms a gel in the stomach and acts as an antacid, it is preferable to give it after meals. The gel may "break down" if given before meals, making it less effective. However, it can be given with food if necessary.
Can it be given with other medications?
Because calcium carbonate acts as an antacid, it may interact with other medications that require an acidic environment to be effective. Therefore, it is recommended to wait two hours between taking other medications and Vetilea Gastro, especially H2 antihistamines, antifungals, digoxin, and certain antibiotics (tetracyclines and quinolones).
Can it be given with Omeprazole?
Yes, it can be given with omeprazole. However, it is recommended to separate the doses by two hours. For example, give omeprazole before meals and Vetilea Gastro afterward.
How long can Vetilea Gastro be taken?
For acute, chronic gastritis, or esophagitis, it is recommended to take the product during these episodes.
For gastroprotection, such as during treatment with NSAIDs or esophageal protection, it can be taken continuously or for the duration of the treatment.
Can it be administered to animals with chronic kidney disease?
It can be administered to animals with chronic kidney disease when experiencing uremic gastritis, but it is recommended to monitor calcium levels.
Can it be given to pregnant females?
Its use has not been tested in pregnant females, so it is not recommended for administration.
